About Us
Steeped in 76 years of ranching and outfitting, Flathead Lake Lodge is a place that needs to be experienced. A family-owned and-operated dude ranch, we’re located in northwest Montana on the shores of Flathead Lake and make our home here year-round.
In 1945, Les Averill returned from World War II, purchased the ranch and started the uphill task of making his home on this wild land, restoring vacant lodges and building new cabins to hosts guests for generations to come. After Les retired, the second generation—Doug and Maureen Averill—became stewards of the ranch and ensured that the family legacy and love for the West is still found in abundance on every corner of the ranch. Today, the third generation of the Averill family, Chase and Kate, are at the helm and are continuing the long-held tradition of welcoming guests to Flathead Lake Lodge and treating them with the warmest, most genuine Western hospitality found anywhere.
And while the ranch’s terrain has evolved over the years from an untamed forested hideout to beautifully manicured grounds with just the right amount of wildness, the people, experiences and commitment to hospitality have remained the same generation after generation.
