Howdy Friends,
’Ol man winter snipped our President’s ears, but out here in the Flathead we have enjoyed a balmy winter with the lawns all showing their greenness. It seemed all we needed was you good people to put the life blood into the Ranch again.
It won’t be long until the calendar says it’s spring, and you will be hitting the road again for a vacation full of fun. We hope many memories still linger from your last visit, and that the family vote for ’61 will again be Flathead Lake Lodge..(Don’t forget to let the kids vote).
With this open winter, we’ve been able to thin and prune about 80 acres of timberland. We purchased the 360 acres south of us, and have no more sheep to herd!! We now have 1850 acres to ride on the beautiful hills and mountains overlooking the lake. We hauled in top soil for two more acres of lawn so the front is really beautiful.
The new saddle shed is also underway. It will include a loft recreation area upstairs for the children to gather and have their own fun, and lots of room for square dancing.
In the cruiser, we have installed a new jet-power driven motor so there will be no more prop and underwater doings from driftwood. It will give much better waterskiing performance. Also, we’ll be able to troll from the cruiser—and maybe try for a big mackinaw. The sailboat is really a wonderful day sailer since it was remodeled.
We’ve kept ten colts, Pretty Boy—our Appaloosa Stallion and Ruber, our Arabian at the corrals this winter. Fourteen new Appaloosa surprises are expected this spring. It’s a beautiful sight to have these young colts running in the field.
Our boys have been busy with basketball, the organ and accordian, and the daily routine of school activities. Danny was on the main basketball string and Bigfork did all right. Dalvin is still boss of this corral.
Letters, cards and visits from all of you have been so appreciated. Remember our gates are always open for your return. Reservations are stocking up for the season; so won’t you get yours in Now to assure you of the dates you desire. Our entire family sends our sincere greetings to each of you, and we’ll be awaiting word as to your plans for the season; or if you can’t come, do tell your friends.
Sincerely,
The Averills
